about

Cooling off with a robin that listens to flycatchers
31st May 2004 20:00

After a hot, sunny day, with a strong breeze blowing, the forest floor is dry and crisp. This is underneath a dense beech canopy, with the breeze now gradually calming.

Species include: chaffinches, distant blackbirds, several chiffchaffs, cuckoo, goldcrest, woodpigeon, great spotted woodpecker, robin, song thrush.

(distant blackbirds) (crossbill flock pass by - from 1:30)
Soft rustle/crackle of dry leaves - as bud sheathes drop to the floor and a robin [small bird] forages about in the leaf litter.
c. 4 mins in, a robin sings close-by, while his presumed mate on the woodland floor occasionally calls softly. I’m sure this robin’s song is influenced by the flycatchers he hears around him.
(first song thrush starts up while robin singing)
By 16:40 several song thrushes into the distance.
